10Naot Dorith Sandal Review
Naot Dorith in teal patent courtesy of Naot
I’m no foot model, but this sweet little sandal by Naot makes the best of my barking dogs. How often do you find comfort footwear that looks feminine, minimalist and provides the same support as your clunkier stand-bys?
The Naot Dorith fits to a tee and feels terrific. I’m surprised at how my arches feel supported in such a low-to-the-ground sandal. It’s not quite the arch support of Dansko, yet it’s more than I’d expect for this type of sandal. The leather-lined cork/latex footbed molds to the foot and feels soft against the sole.
The Dorith is more flexible than other Naot styles and the shock-absorbing sole makes walking on hard surfaces a breeze. I’ve enjoyed walking around the neighborhood in these. When my five-year-old takes off on his scooter, I can pick up the pace with no problem in my Doriths.
One concern. The top strap fits snug on my wider forefoot. Because I have hammertoes, it rubs a little at the base of my second toe. This may not be a problem for those with toes that align nicely and don’t bump up. It doesn’t cause irritation or blisters, just something I notice while walking.
The Naot Dorith is from the Elegant Flats collection and fits a narrow to medium width foot best. In fact, if you have a wider forefoot, you may find the top strap too snug. I normally wear a 10, sometimes a 9.5 and find the 41 to fit well. The Dorith comes in Euro sizes 35-42 (4-11) for $149.95 from Naot.com, Zappos, and Amazon.
I bought these last year, based upon your recommendation! They fit me perfectly, just as your photo shows. The little cut-out, while probably not intended to do this, fits perfectly around my enlarged big toe joint. However, the Dorith ended up being way too flexible for me — my toe joint ached after a few hours of wear. I still have the shoes, and wear them for an hour or two when I want to look nice — I bought the silver and they’re gorgeous!
I usually don’t care for the Naot sandals that don’t have adjustable straps across the toes. Many of them stretch out over time and get too loose for me.
However, the photos you show really make it clear that the Dorith actually covers quite a bit of the foot, just in cute, narrow straps. So maybe I’ll give this one a go and hope that the many straps will work together to keep my foot snugly in place.
Thanks for sharing your feet inside the shoes. It really does help me!
HI Bette,
I agree with you, they are more flexible than other Naot sandals with a thicker cork and latex sole–not a long-term sandals for those with big toe pain/hallux limitus. But aren’t they the sweetest little comfort sandal??
Hi Louise! Always good to hear from you, as an avid Naot fan. I have to admit that the straps were a bit tight at the beginning and I’m glad they stretched out! They do run narrow.
I bought this shoe two years ago at the beginning of the summer and loved it, but by the end of the summer the straps had become so loose that I had to pull the velcro straps (ew) allllll the way over – and it still wasn’t tight enough. Really disappointing, because these shoes are expensive, but they were just not made well.
I have this sandal in 2 colors, teal and silver. Love them both! I agree with Chloe that the straps definitely do loosen up but I’m still able to wear them without a problem. I’m thinking of getting another pair but can’t decide which color.
FYI–I was just able to grab this sandal from amazon for $55! Limited colors/sizes. Probably wouldn’t normally buy the orange but at that price I’m sure I can work it into my summer wardrobe!
Ah! The orange is my current favorite. Would look great a pop of color with navy, gray, white…GREAT DEAL!
I was lusting after these for a while online, so when they turned up in my local shoe-store I was so excited to try them on! Alas, although they might run “narrow” width-wise, I found them very deep: I could still get my thumb between the toe-strap and the top of my foot 🙁 Not to mention I also had to pull the velcro way past the point of looking reasonable (the strap was nearly hitting the ground!). One day I’ll find a shoe company that doesn’t think all comfort/support-requiring feet are wider than mine!
Kirsten, really cute sandals…just tried them on locally. Unfortunately the thin straps feel uncomfortable to me and the forefoot straps are too tight as well. Have to keep searching for a lower heel dress sandal I guess.
BTW, what is the nail polish color you’re wearing in the pic? Very pretty orangey color….looks great with the blue sandal.
