When we hear the word "clogs", we immediately think of Scandinavian dancers around a Maypole or of Dutch folkloric figures clomping among tulips in windmill shadows. We think of our European forefathers in heavy, wooden footwear. We think of farmers and working class toilers. The Troentorp clog, a handcrafted and genuine product of Sweden, shatters all our myths of traditional discomfort and utility, in favor of style and contour. Tropentorp features leather, light-weight wood, and hand craftsmanship. The company has enjoyed a strong presence in Sweden with over one hundred years in the market.

As a young child, I remember wearing Troentorp clogs at my grandparents' summer house on Hjälmaren near Örebro. I used to slip them on and run around all day in my wooden shoes. Everyone did.

When I discovered the updated shoe in America as an adult, I immediately became excited to try them again. I was delighted by all the choices in styles and colors. After two minutes in my new Cola Brown Audobons, I was immediately re-smitten. This is not a clog! This a comfortable and stylish shoe. Unlike my first childhood pairs, these have laces, a contoured footbed and arch support that molds to the foot. They come in attractive designs and trendy colors. I can even wear these to work! I'm ready for warmer weather so I can, once again, slip them on and run around all day in my new favorite pair of wooden shoes!

The Troentorp Audobon is available for $132.95 at Shoebuy.com, free shipping and returns. Find a Troentorp retailer near you.

Kirsten, how do these feel and fit as compared to Dansko or Allegria? I generally wear a 40 in Dansko and 39 or 40 in Allegria, depending on style. I do like the look of this Troentorp brand.
