Meet Marci, Mallory & Audrey: Sanita's Spring Sandals

SanitaaudreyThere's something about a wooden sandal that transports me right back to 6th grade at Ingomar Middle School in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pa. I pined for a pair of Candie's slides  so I could fit in with the cool girls even though they were completely inappropriate for a 12 year old's foot.  My mom didn't give in to my powderpuffing (family word for whining) completely, however she did buy me a pair of low-heeled Candie's wannabes, much to my chagrin. I never did own the original Candie's wSanitamalloryooden slides and soon moved on to my next footwear obsession, Zodiac stack-heeled boots (you tell ME the year).

In memory of those fake Candie's I hid in my locker once I got to school, I present to you three current styles from Sanita's retro collection for spring. All available from OnlineShoes.com with free shipping and returns.

1. In lime green aniline leather, the Sanita Audrey has a sparkly buckle, ergonomic wooden footbed and rocker sole for a comfortable stride. $64.95

2.   With a similar look to the Audrey, the Sanita Mallory has a darker wood rocker sole while the single buckled strap has a soft metallic sheen. $79.95

Sanitamarci 3. The strappy Sanita Marci has a slightly higher sculpted heel and a bit more glitz than Audrey and Mallory. Comes in coral, gold or sand metallic leather. $84.95

Over the river and thru the woods...

to grandmother's house we go! On a little break visiting my folks in Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia. Will try to post later today.

Thank you Mr. Guy Kawasaki

As a fledgling shoe blogger, you can imagine the shock and accompanying glee at being included in Guy Kawasaki's news aggregation site, Alltop.com. Amidst high-fashion blogs like The Sartorialist and The Manolo, rests my little Weimaraner dog favicon. He holds his hat high among the big leagues knowing he is a niche blog that focuses solely on comfortable, stylish (and affordable) shoes.

After receiving the news that BarkingDogShoes.com had been added to the fashion section of Alltop.com, my husband (and SEO department) said, "You got an e-mail from WHO???" Earlier in the week he had utilized Mr. Kawasaki's 10/20/30 rule for an upcoming PowerPoint presentation he was to give at work. Thank you, Guy Kawasaki, for giving us both a hand in our business ventures.

Shoes.com 20% Off Sale and Random Yellow Shoe/American Idol Chit-Chat

Seychellesmysterious Shoes.com is offering 20% off ALL sale and clearance shoes through March 31--just use promo code 20SALE08 at checkout.

I'm not sure when my obsession with citrus-hued shoes will die down, but it must have to do with my serious vitamin K deficiency after an extended glum winter season here in Chicago. Pictured is the Seychelles Mysterious Stranger Sandal for $59.99 ($48 after promo code reduction).

I dedicate this sunny shoe to the happiest American Idol contestant this season, Ms. (Mrs?)  Brooke White. It  reminds me of her super-shiny "Here Comes the Sun" performance. Personally, I'm a David Cook fan, but I like her style.

Soul of Africa Shoes: My Review

Soulofafricaorange1 Two weeks ago I featured Soul of Africa shoes and even ordered a pair for myself. I've been wearing my new tangerine Umfowethu's to the store, playground and around the house for the last 14 days. Aside from being shoes with a good cause, they are incredibly comfortable. While the shoe is handstitched by previously unemployed South African women, the actual sole was designed by Froggie Shoes of South Africa.

All Froggie shoes have a unique gel cushioning technology that was created by a leading podiatrist. I can definitely feel this layer of extra cushion with every step.

I'm not sure what possessed me to order bright orange shoes, but I figure the louder the shoe, the more inquiries into the Soul of Africa initiative, and that's a good thing.

Bunion-Friendly Shoes Part 2: Not Your Grandma's Orthopedic Shoes

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

After scouring customer comments at Zappos and relying on my own experience with bunions, I've collected eight shoes (from dressy to casual) that received highest acclaim for relieving pain. I am by no means endorsing any one pair as the cure for bunion pain as I'm not a podiatrist. These are suggestions of shoes that could work for you and your problem feet. Remember, if you're dealing with Zappos, you can always return/exchange for free.

  • Gentle Souls (by Kenneth Cole) Struttin' Sally: Anonymous from Denver, CO says, "I have a problem with bunions, but since the leather is so soft and supple, I can forget the bunions exist." $164
  • Clarks Henna: Jean S. from San Diego, CA, " This pair works because they are cut higher up on the inside allowing the leather to completely cover the bunion instead of cutting into it." $74
  • Ros Hommerson Angelina:  Customers like the soft leather as it doesn't irritate the bunion. $79
  • Onex Puffy: Anonymous from Fullerton, CA states, "They are really comfortable...I have problem feet...flat arches, bunions, plantar fasciitis..." $74
  • Dansko Lotus: Anonymous from Vermont, "This one is magic, plenty of room for bunions or tender spots. " $124
  • Naturalizer Creston: Anonymous from Colorado, "These are so soft my bunions and arthritis don't bother me." $69
  • Keen Isabella: Anonymous from NC says, "I have a bunion and can't wear too many kinds of shoes, but this one is great." $96
  • Mephisto Allrounder Niro: Many customers like how this walking shoe fits comfortably over bunions and has a roomy toe box. Comes in many fun color combinations. $169

Do you have a special shoe that looks great and accomodates your pesky bunions? Please leave a comment and share with the rest of us!
