I figured it was time to give Keen another try after my mishap two months ago. I decided on the beet red Madrid mary jane, as it's much more feminine and streamlined than the Calistoga model I tried. The above picture shows the Madrid in action as I throw the ball to my toddler son (the fun t-shirt is from Threadless).
8 things I love about my Keen Madrid mary janes:
- The color: an intense deep red with gold accents.
- Synthetic mesh upper hugs my foot and covers my bunions (and hammertoes). This is why this blog would never qualify as a fashion blog--because I talk about my bunions.
- Roomy toe box accommodates a wider forefoot.
- Velcro mary jane strap is adjustable, which is appreciated if feet swell during the day.
- Cushioned footbed--feels like walking on little pillows.
- The heel part of the shoe does not rub or slip.
- Out-of-the-box comfort: no break-in time needed.
- Dressier than most Keens.
The Keen Madrid mary jane will be my playground shoe of choice this spring as it covers my toes (not my best feature) while still maintaining a definite spring look. Word to the wise--order a half-size down as these run a bit large.
