Every snow-prone city has their gold-medal weather person. Here in Chicagoland, it's Tom Skilling. He explains a snowstorm in isobars, barometric pressure and lake effect potential. And baby, according to Tom, we've got a doozy coming. So where are YOUR snow boots?
Pardon the lackluster photo above, but I get a kick out of it. Last week at the Y, I was hanging up my coat before starting my daily trudge on the treadmill when I saw them. Someone's Keen Betty Boots! I pretended to be selecting a Pandora station to listen to when in actuality I was snapping a photo of the boots. Is that weird? Because that's what I do.
I love the Keen Betty boot. As Keen puts it, it's got a "snow-bunny style." But what about warmth? Charcoal bamboo. Who knew? Yep, Keen has trademarked a process using charcoal bamboo to make super warm insulation without all the bulk. There's also a thermal heat shield which I could try to explain but would sound like a science experiment gone wrong, so you read up on your heat shields here.
And comfort? You betcha, Betty. This boot has a heel support structure that is "engineered to support the foot on impact, dissipate shock and reduce the odds of twisting an ankle." Now I want THAT in a boot.
A word on sizing: Keen recommends that you order up a 1/2 size as the Betty runs snug.
