I almost sold them. The green Dansko
sandals I had been so excited to get early last summer had languished
in my closet. I only wore them twice! What could be wrong? They’re
comfortable, cute, a brand I know and love, and a color that (though
a bit out of my comfort range) isn’t hard to work with. Finally I
gave up and decided to cut my losses, planning to unload them on eBay
in early spring. Then in mid-February, as winter blues hit and I
started daydreaming about cute spring outfits, I remembered the
distressed boyfriend chinos I’d snatched up at J. Crew’s fall
clearance. And the light bulb went on.
I realized the problem was not with my sandals at all, but with how I’d been wearing them. You see, with my Olive Oyl-esque figure, putting on those sandals with my usual slim-fit crops made my legs look like two golf clubs. But with fuller, longer pants like my chinos, the proportions of the outfit come into line. Check out my before and after photos. These sandals are staying in my closet! I know they’ll say hello to my feet more often this summer now that I understand how to wear them.
I’ll admit, it can be harder putting
together a cute outfit if comfortable shoes are a top priority. If
you find styling your wardrobe difficult, regularly looking through
fashion blogs and magazines can help train your eye in proper
proportion and use of color. Audi from Fashion for Nerds
also did a great tutorial on putting outfits together called
“Breaking Out of a Fashion Rut.” Maybe a few fashion tips are
all you need to be a knockout in one of Dansko’s new sandals for
this spring.
