Debbie in her Fly Londons. Visit her most excellent Etsy shop of hand-made quilts, pillows and other beautiful handicrafts that I will never be able to make this side of heaven.
In the classroom of comfortable shoes you'll find the following students: cutesy, schoolgirl Dansko; intellectual, dependable Naot, and outdoorsy skin-kneed twins, Keen and Merrell. There are AFS students: Wolky from Holland, El Naturalista from Spain and Romika from Germany to name a few. Stylish yet conservative Clark's sits front and center always ready with an answer to your foot problem questions while Birkenstock comes in late every day and you know why.
But left of center there's a new girl. She arrived from the UK recently and has a style all to her own. She's against-the-grain, self-assured and intimidates you just a little. Meet Fly London.
Fly London isn't billed as a comfort shoe, but rather a hip, youthful brand that customers happen to find foot-friendly thanks to sturdy wedge heels, roomy toe boxes, soft leather uppers and cushioned footbeds.
I asked Debbie of Mu'Mu Design what she thought of her fabulous red wedges:
They are SO comfortable, and so are the boots I bought - no need to break in at all. The leather seems to be good quality soft leather, and I honestly believe that you get what you pay for. These were a splurge for me too and I wouldn't recommend them unless I totally love them. And I will be buying their stuff from now on! Go for it ;-)
Although I can't locate Debbie's exact style, here are a few of my favorite Fly Londons:

The poster child for Fly London is Audi of Fashion for Nerds. I often open my closet, stare at its contents and say to myself, "What would Audi wear?" And then I layer, mix, match, accessorize and cinch with a belt.
Because this song came to mind when considering Fly London and I haven't been able to shake it, I'll share it so it can get stuck in your head all day too.
