In a crowd of skinny jeans tucked into knee boots, I walk alone...in granny oxfords. Don't you want to just buck the system some days? Today was a bootcut jeans (gasp) and fun socks day. You've seen these leopard socks before and the Rieker Milla oxford is the perfect shoe to show them off with the cutouts on the sides. Now don't get all "I'm too professional to wear those" with me. You could wear them too, but with dark-hued hosiery. Or you could go funky thrift-store vintage if that's your cup of tea.
I don't think I've ever worn a full-on shoe as lightweight as the Rieker Milla tie-up oxford. There's no heft, bulk or chunk to the Milla; she makes my feet feel sprightly. The 1 1/4" heel is just enough to keep the pants from dragging. While the toebox isn't as wide as say, an Alegria clog, it doesn't cramp my toes. The leather is soft after a wearing or two; sort of molds to the irregularities of the foot--bumps and all.
I have a love/hate relationship with the ghillie-style laces. They allow for a customized fit across the instep, yet I have to double tie them like a kindergartner to keep them from loosening or completely undoing themselves.
The removable insole is rather thin, so I might end up putting in an insert or a dress orthotic. But this can be good news for those that have trouble finding a dressier shoe that can accommodate an insert or orthotic.
I wear a 41 in the Rieker Milla D7210 which best corresponds with my 9.5-10 US size. Be forewarned that this shoe is very flexible, so if you have Hallux Limitus or Rigidus, the shoe may irritate that ouchy big toe.
