I am not urban enough to pull off this brand well, but this specific style is the perfect cross-over into my midwest life. It's sleek ("architectural," as a few reviewers describe it), unique yet surprisingly comfortable...like almost-Dansko comfortable.
I received a pair of Tsubo Asmiks in 2009--their 1.o version. I believe it only came in black or green suede at the time. I wrecked them in no time flat by failing to apply suede protector and wearing them in sludgy winter weather. They fit great but look mighty shabby.
Thankfully Tsubo kept the Asmik style and introduced a leather version in gorgeous shades of merlot, earth tones, silver, shiny patents and basic black. Whether Tsubo intended it or not, the wedge platform and slightly turned up toe works sort of like a rocker sole propelling the foot through the stride. For those with hallux limitus or rigidus (painful or stiff big toe), this is often a necessary feature to keep that pesky toe from bending. If you like flexible footwear like Aerosoles, you won't like these.
If you have a narrow or medium width foot, the Tsubo Asmik should work for you. I wouldn't recommend it for wide feet or for those with pronounced bunions as the toe box isn't as wide as a Dansko. If you're in between sizes, I recommend ordering up.
