Owl alegria 5

My obsession with owls began two years ago when my husband beckoned me to the front door. Silhouetted beautifully by a late-November sunset, two Great Horned owls sat atop our neighbor’s home hooting at each other, which I’ve learned is called “duetting.” I never knew they lived in our neighborhood and I haven’t seen them since, but I hear them during mating season, from November to February. What incredible creatures.

I have owl tees (like the one at right from Urban Outfitters), mugs, paintings, earrings, stuffed animals, even Post-It notes. My kids call me the crazy owl lady and my husband says it’s time to back-off the owl collecting. He also claims that he liked them before me. But he only likes them. I have a whole board dedicated to them on Pinterest. I win for the most owl love.

And now I have them on my shoes. The beloved Alegria Paloma comes in coral and tan patent with adorable Barn owls sitting on branches, eyes wide open. Look at the button detail! What a hoot.

The Paloma has always been a good match for my problem feet. The toebox is roomy and high allowing space for bunions and hammertoes. The cork-latex footbed is removable to accommodate orthotics, but I prefer the Alegria footbed–excellent arch support, just the right amount of cushion and good heel stability. The rocker sole takes pressure off the forefoot while walking.

I normally wear between a 9.5 and 10, so the Alegria 40 fits me perfectly. The Paloma is best for medium to slightly wide feet.

If you like colorful, funky-chunky footwear that provides all-day comfort for standing or walking on hard surfaces, the Paloma is your shoe.

The Alegria Paloma is available in over 25 colors and patterns at:

I bought a pair of the Palomas. The width is great, the toe box is roomy. Unfortunately, the seam of the vamp cuts right across my bunion. I so needed these to work for me!
