Bussola Shoes – Relaxed in the California Bootie (Review)

Bussola Shoes California bootie

I wouldn’t normally pick this little boot out of a crowd. It’s not a showy attention hog. But don’t let its conservative looks fool you. While the new bootie from Bussola Shoes, the Bussola California, may be short on height, it’s tall on comfort. Thank you to for sending a pair for review.

Do you have sensitive feet? Do you detest shoes with inner seams and stitching? The Bussola California feels like a soft glove against the skin. Do leather shoes often feel too stiff and tight on the bunions or hammertoes? The Bussola California extends grace to toe bumps with its stretch microsuede suede upper (which happens to be water repellent). The cushioned Poron midsole feels springy and lightweight, absorbing the shock of hard flooring and cement sidewalks. When I zip them on, I’m convinced they make me walk faster like a kid in new gym shoes–they’re so lightweight. The arch support is minimal, but the insole is removable and may allow for a thin orthotic.

The fit is fabulous for me. The toe box is roomy enough for toes to spread out while providing a snug fit at the heel. I normally wear a size 10, sometimes 9.5 and the euro 41 worked for me perfectly. I love the elastic goring at the back of the ankle. It looks like grosgrain ribbon, but provides a snug yet stretchy fit at the back of the ankle (but does not cut in to achilles area at all).

The California from Bussola Shoes comes in three versatile shades: coal (gray), coffee (rich dark brown) and black in euro sizes 35-41 (if between sizes, order up) at with free shipping. has a wide selection of Bussola footwear–take a look!

I have overlapping toes, would these be suitable for me? Also are they waterproof enough to wear in snowy weather? Thanks

I have a hammer toe on my right foot, which sits on my big toe. I really like the looks of this boot and would love to try them. How can I order a pair. I am in Toronto. Ont. Donna

How is the Bussola for someone like me who teaches and does a lot of standing and walking all day? I do need arch support, but I have a problem ankle that has had surgery in the past, so I need a boot or shoe that either hugs the ankle with support, or comes down below the ankle, more like a shootie. I already wear the Dansko Prima. I used to wear the clogs but I fell down a flight of stairs while vacationing in Jerusalem, and twisted the bad ankle, so I am afraid to go back to the Dansko clog because I do turn my ankle with its high platform.

My friend, who is a dean at a high school, had them on the other night when I saw her. She says she can wear them all day, no problem.

I’m looking for shoes with a wide toe box so my toes can spread out naturally and where the shoe last keeps the forefoot down, rather than always flexed up. Also a slight heel so to accommodate my tight calf muscles. These boots look close. Are there others in a flat or maryjane with those guidelines?

Thank you so much for suggesting these wonderful booties! I’ve had arthritis and a bunion since I was a teenager, my options didn’t seem to expand beyond sketchers go walk shoes. I bought three pairs of these wonderful booties, so I won’t have to worry about them being discontinued for awhile.

I’m so glad they work for you. I wear mine more than others in the closet–so lightweight, easy to put on, comfy on bunions and hammertoes plus they clean up well!

I have 2 pairs of these boots and get lots of compliments on them. I have bunions and plantar fasciitis and can wear them without issues.

Thank you so much for this review!! When shopping for shoes, just looking at some make my bunions hurt! These are without a doubt the most comfortable boots I own. I LOVE THEM!!! I am going to order more in other colors. Please keep your reviews coming. It helps my aching feet so much!

I have extremely wide forefeet and very slender heels. Bunions and possibility of 2 hindfoot fusions in my future. Big toes cross over so constantly feel toe binding and much pain as result. At this point I am nearly barefoot due to lack of footwear possibilities, have tried everything I kid you not. Hometown has no options so heading to Toronto but big city, sore feet. Where best to go? All I really want is an adequate running shoe, super wide mesh forefoot with no seams with oblique toe box. Does such a shoe exist? Haven’t found anything yet, truly desperate and in much pain due to having to wear shoes that are too tight for me. Txs.

These boots are very comfortable on my sensitive feet. I was worried about the narrow(ish) toe box, but because the material is soft and flexible, they feel just fine on my bunion.
