Comfortable Dress Shoes for Women

Comfortable Mother of Bride or Groom Shoes that are actually Pretty

I’m now at the age where I could be a mother of the groom – although there are no upcoming nuptials in our family…yet. But it got me thinking – what shoes could I possibly wear that would pass for somewhat elegant while preventing pinched toes and a twisted ankle? I like to think that I have an expert eye for wedding-appropriate footwear that could work in this particular setting: lower block heels, adjustable straps and cushioned footbeds. See seven comfortable mother of the bride shoes and leave your own suggestions in the comments!

1. L’Amour Des Pieds Mahiya

I don’t think I’ve ever seen bunions concealed so beautifully with airy, mesh insets connected by an adjustable forefoot strap. The LDP Mahiya also features moderate arch support, memory foam insole, hook and loop ankle strap and a 2.5″ heel.

Available in sizes 5.5-11, medium width for $249.95 from L’Amour Des Pieds & Nordstrom.

“One of the most comfortable shoes I own. I wore them for the wedding for 10 hours straight and didn’t have a problem at all! I can’t say they are super fancy looking (you can’t get it all lol), but i wore them with a long dress and planning to wear with pants in the future. Definitely recommend!” – Nordstrom customer

2. Aerosoles Cosmos

Mothers of brides and grooms with forefoot issues, attention please. This platform sandal is praised repeatedly by members of the Hallux Rigidus Support Group as the rigid outsole limits movement of the painful big toe. Plus the soft straps won’t irritate a bone spur. Don’t let the three inch block heel scare you, some of the lift comes from the one inch platform.

Available in sizes 5-12, medium & wide widths for $55-135 from Aerosoles, Nordstrom, DSW & Amazon

3. Gentle Souls Lucinda

If you’re self conscious of your toes, consider a closed-toe shoe like the Gentle Souls Lucinda–the gold metallic adds a touch of glam. The footbed is covered in shock-absorbing PORON cushioning that energizes the soles and a two-inch block heel provides stability.

Available in sizes 5-11, medium width for $88-189 from Kenneth Cole, Amazon & Zappos

“Very comfortable dress up shoes for those who can’t wear heels.” – Amazon customer

4. Journee Collection Evilynn

Now for the mother of bride or groom on a budget, the Journee Collection Evilynn sandal features a soft knit upper, lightly cushioned footbed and a two inch block heel–and it comes in wide widths!

Available in sizes 6-12, medium & wide width for $53-59.99 from Journee Collection, DSW & Amazon.

“I have a wide foot and many times even a wide dress shoe doesn’t fit and/or is uncomfortable. These shoes are absolutely perfect! The fabric toe strap has just enough give to not only fit my foot but also feels comfortable. I bought them to wear for my daughter’s wedding and I can see wearing them for other occasions.” – DSW customer

5. Abeo Avenue Strap

Enhanced arch support in a sparkly dress sandal, the Abeo Avenue will keep your mind off your feet as you celebrate! An adjustable forefoot strap provides room for a wider forefoot.

Available in sizes 5-11, medium width for $99-169.96 from Abeo Footwear, Nordstrom & Amazon

I bought these for a formal wedding reception and I was able to keep them on all night. They are a beautiful shoe and I’m now enjoying them with jeans as well. Love them!” – Abeo customer

6. Vivaia Azura Bow Flats

I understand the pointed toe could deter you, but these lovely flats by Vivaia are wider where they needs to be – at the bunion area of the forefoot, so don’t be afraid to try them! The insoles are cushioned lightly with extra padding at the forefoot, heel and arch.

Available in sizes 5-11, medium width for $99-139 from Vivaia, Nordstrom & Amazon

“Oh my heavens, these shoes are so beautiful. I wore them for my wedding and I felt like a princess all day. They have just the right amount of sparkle. I thought they would have more arch support (don’t love my flat feet) but they are gorgeous. I put my orthotics in and they were a tiny bit tight but comfortable.” – Vivaia customer

7. Lady Couture Paris Sneaker

Everyone mother of the bride or groom needs a comfortable sneaker for the dance floor and the Lady Couture Paris is a fun, sparkly and comfy choice. While they don’t offer a ton of arch support, you can always add an insole. Either way, they’re a relief from high heels.

Available in sizes 5-11, medium width for $64.99 from DSW & Amazon

“These have lots of bling but they’re not obnoxious. The soft gold color is perfect. I’m wearing these under my long dress and my son’s wedding reception. These shoes don’t have much padding inside or any kind of an arch support. I’ll add an insert to them for the reception.” – DSW customer
