Salomon XT-Whisper: The Sneaker That’s as Good for Your Feet as It Is for Your Outfit

By Kirsten | BarkingDogShoes.com — Reviews of the Most Comfortable Shoes for Women

When a shoe stops me in my tracks because of the color, I know I’m in trouble. That’s exactly what happened with the Salomon XT-Whisper in Vanilla Ice and Nectarine. As a Gen X woman, the name alone had me at hello. But it was the five-star reviews raving about arch support and a roomy toe box that convinced me to grab a pair for my barking dogs.

Fashion Sneaker Meets Technical Shoe

Originally a women’s trail running shoe from 2009, the XT-Whisper has been remastered as a fashion-forward sneaker with serious support and cushioning. I’d wear these for everyday errands over serious hiking (my Merrell Moabs handle that), but the grippy outsole means you won’t be caught off guard if you wander off pavement.

Comfort Technologies Worth Knowing

OrthoLite® Footbed — The removable insole offers solid cushioning and breathability. I tested mine with chunky custom orthotics and they fit — a genuine win for orthotic wearers.

AgileCHASSIS™ — Works with the EnergyCell midsole for stability and shock absorption. First impression walking: noticeably cushioned. I also tested one shoe with my orthotic and one without — the arch support without it held up better than expected.

Quicklace™ — One pull of the toggle and you’re done. Lace ends tuck into the upper. No tying, no fussing.

Fit & Sizing: The Real Talk

The XT-Whisper has a wider forefoot and narrower heel, which is good news if you have bunions or wider feet. The fit is snug at the arch and heel. I did note a little gaping at the ankle. If you have wider intep and ankles, this should’t be a problem.

Sizing note: this is a gender-inclusive style, and some women find it runs slightly long. A size 10 with a thicker crew sock fit me true to size, but if you’re between sizes, go down a half. It’s available in women’s sizes 5–14.

Bottom Line

The Salomon XT-Whisper delivers on style, arch support, shock absorption, and bunion-friendly fit — a combination that’s genuinely hard to find. It’s not an orthopedic shoe, but it’s a well-built sneaker that accommodates orthotics and won’t make you choose between looking good and feeling good.

Available in women’s sizes 5-14 (men’s 4-13) for $145 from Salomon.com and Nordstrom.
