We Welcome the Return of Bold and Beautiful Block Heels
Let’s say farewell to thin, spindly heels for now and welcome back chunky block heels. This is a trend we can support here at the Barking Dog. Low block heels under three inches will provide a leg-enlongating look without the pain and discomfort of a stiletto. The wider, chunkier heel distributes weight better than a thinner heel allowing for longer-wear and improved walkability.
Howard Osterman, a Washington DC based podiatrist approves of block heels in a 2017 article for Health.com, “The wider the heel, the less one has to balance on the shoe,” Dr. Osterman explains. “Think of the heel like a stilt–the smaller the heel, the more the calf muscles have to work, which can be unstable and fatiguing.” Another bonus of block heels: most have round or almond toes which are kinder and gentler on bunions.
We’ve rounded up our favorite block heels with lower heel-heights, comfort footbeds, rounded toes and good reviews. Pair them with cropped pants or jeans for a casual look, dress them up with a pencil skirt or a dress. If you’re still not sure how you would wear the new block heels, visit the Naturalizer blog for four creative ideas.
