I’m all for a solid, well-made, supportive boot with room for my chunky orthotics, but honestly I’m tired of them making my size 10 feet look even larger. Don’t get me wrong, will I wear my sensible boots for long hikes and city walks? You bet. But some outfits call for a more slender silhouette and that’s where the Gentle Souls Emily boot shines!
At first glance, I assumed the toe box would fit too tightly on my bunioned forefoot, but I was pleasantly surprised. The stretch suede upper is soft and forgiving of not only bunions and tailor’s bunions, but hammertoes too. The glove-like fit is snug but not tight. My feet and ankles feel stable which I consider a win with rheumatoid arthritis.
The stable block heel measures two inches, so I find the bootie suitable for shorter walks, going out to dinner or a show–it’s my dress-up boot of choice as it pairs nicely with both skirts and wide-leg pants.
I find the fit is true. The Gentle Souls site states that the Emily boot runs large and to size down a half size, but I ordered my normal size 10 and it fits perfectly. I don’t think this boot would fit a wide or extra wide foot well. Mine are a muted neutral called “shitake” (a gray/brown with green undertones), but the Emily also comes in gorgeous hues of black, navy, chocolate and burgundy suede plus a black stretch leather version.
