Keen Elle Sandals

These cute Keen sandals caught our attention while we were online searching for something completely different. What a happy surprise! You may associate Keen sandals with the serviceable sport sandals many of us know and love. While these score a lot more style points than some of their clunkier cousins, Keen clearly is still keeping comfort at the forefront. We noticed online reviewers giving the Keen Elle high marks, so we decided to try them ourselves. Here’s what we like about them:

  • Elastic straps make them easy to slip on and off. This could be a big plus for folks with dexterity issues as there are no fasteners to fuss with. The elastic is also just the right combination of firm and forgiving – sandals stay securely on the foot, but stretch nicely to accommodate a variety of foot shapes, bunions, and feet that swell.
  • EVA footbeds offer good arch support combined with a nicely cushioned feel underfoot. Not too firm, not too soft…even Goldilocks would approve.
  • Jute-infused rubber outsoles have surprisingly good traction, but their low profile doesn’t interfere with the sandal’s overall fashion sense.
  • Eco-friendly materials – straps are made from 100% PET plastic bottles.
  • Versatile, easy to wear styling. Pair these Keen sandals with jeans, shorts, or a sundress and always look beautifully put together.

The Keen Elle sandal is available in five beautiful colors, priced at $60-80 from Keen.com, Zappos, and Amazon.

I ordered these from Amazon after seeing this here, and I wanted your other readers to know that while the sole feels firm yet cushy (a nice respite from the thin, hard sole of Vionic flip flops!), the only strap that stretches is the one across the instep. The ones across the toes and around the ankle don’t. This makes them unsuitable for my tailor’s (pinky-toe) bunions, and I can’t see how they’d work for people with big toe bunions, either. The strap cuts right across the little toe. Also, I found the back strap to be too long. Perhaps if these came in other widths they would work out better. Alas! Still hoping to find an affordable sandal that works with at least a few of my foot problems (arthritis, bunions, ankle tendinitis). They were cute though–I tried the red and the navy in two different sizes.

Shoes for people with bad bunions

I ordered the Keen Elle because I have wide feet and wanted a comfortable sandal and I had to send them back. Front strap isn’t elastic and cut in really bad.

I fell in love with the burgundy pair after reading this post and promptly ordered them. Very comfy, no problem with the straps, but can we talk about how noisy they are!? I can’t wear them to the office again. They make the loudest flip flopping slapping sound ever. Too bad because they are so cute and comfy.
